General

Caring for your Jewellery

To ensure your Casa Cala jewellery pieces stay bright and shiny for as long as possible, keep them away from chemicals such as perfume and chlorine, and store them in a cool dry place in an individual pouch of box to avoid your jewellery tangling or scratching.

Extended Jewellery Care information

Store your jewellery individually in its original box or pouch to avoid scratching, and keep chains fastened to avoid tangling.

Keep gold vermeil and silver jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place.  Sterling silver oxidises over time and can be cleaned by washing in lukewarm water then buffed with a silver or microfibre cloth.

Jewellery is susceptible to damage from contact with chemicals present in perfume, make- up, cleaning products, sun tan lotion & deodorant. Do not keep your jewellery in direct sunlight when unworn. Long exposure to sunlight can also cause many natural gemstones to fade in colour over time.

Clean your jewellery carefully with a soft, non-abrasive and lint-free cloth to bring back its shine. To remove grease or oxidation, rinse in a mild washing up liquid with warm water, if necessary gently brushing with a soft toothbrush , then rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

Avoid using ‘dip’ polish or abrasive jewellery cleaners as these contain harsh chemicals and can destroy your jewellery over time.

OUR MATERIALS

18 KARAT GOLD PLATING

Our gold plating is a 1 micron layer of 18 karat gold on sterling silver. If cared for correctly it will give you long lasting wear. It’s natural for the gold to fade and wear down over time, avoid applying too much pressure while cleaning as you want to keep the plating looking as bright as possible for as long as possible.

To Clean Gold Plated Jewellery:

Place jewellery gently in a bowl with lukewarm water and a low concentration of detergent. Brush gently with a soft cloth or soft toothbrush to remove grease. Rinse thoroughly to remove residue & dry completely. Buff gently with a microfibre jewellery cloth and it's ready to wear.

STERLING SILVER

925 Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure Silver and 7.5% Copper.

Caring for your silver jewellery:

Clean silver jewellery using a silver cloth, or remove grease by gently washing in mild detergent with warm water. Wearing silver jewellery often keeps it clean as contact with skin reduces the oxidation of silver. Store in a soft pouch or lined box.

9 KARAT GOLD

We use solid 9 karat gold: an extremely durable alloy that does not easily oxidise or discolour. The number of karats tells you how many 24ths of the total piece is pure gold. The remaining percentage is an alloy of copper, zinc and silver, added to enhance the durability and hardness of the gold, creating the unique soft gold hue.

Caring for your solid gold jewellery:

To clean metal, buff gently using warm water with a soft cloth. To regain sparkle of any diamonds and gemstones, remove grease with mild detergent in warm water using a soft toothbrush or cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners.

NATURAL GEMSTONE JEWELLERY

Our natural gemstones are mined from responsible certified sources. Natural gemstones may vary in colour and consistency, making each one unique. We choose ours for their colour and clarity, as well as the meanings associated with them as birthstones and for their energy properties, historical significance and natural beauty.

To care for gemstone jewellery:

To regain sparkle of diamonds and gemstones, remove grease with mild detergent in warm water using a soft toothbrush or cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners.

Chlorine and salt water can damage gemstones by dulling or eroding them. Some gemstones are porous, most notably Turquoise, Chalcedony & Lapis Lazuli. Avoid leaving these gemstones immersed in water for too long. Liquids and oils may seep into these gemstones causing discolouration and damage over time.

CUBIC ZIRCONIA 'CZ'

At Casa Cala, we use Cubic Zirconia in some of our jewellery, which is a lab created synthetic stone. Cubic Zirconia derives its name from its cubic crystalline form.

Diamonds also have a cubic crystalline form, so cubic zirconia is a great diamond lookalike gemstone offering a durable and affordable alternative to diamonds & colourful precious gemstones, giving you the look and feel without the pricetag.

ENAMEL JEWELLERY

Clean your enamel jewellery pieces with warm water, mild detergent and a soft microfibre cloth. Enamel is a surface finish which can be damaged by household chemicals, perfumes and chlorine.
